MUNCIE, Ind. – Illinois State improved two places and 11 strokes between rounds, and sit in 12th place at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, held at the par-72, 6,204-yard Players Club Golf Course.
The team's two-round score is 623 (317-306). Indianapolis is leading the field with a two-round score of 2-under-par 574 (292-282).
Leading the Redbirds is senior Caitlin Sims. Sims carded a 6-over-par 150 (76-74), catching two birdies on the back nine in round one, and one on hole 17 in the second round. The senior remains in a 12th place tie heading into the third round. After two rounds, Paige Seiser is in 25th place with a 9-over-par 153 (78-75). Seiser scored a birdie on hole 12 in round one, and three across 18 holes in round two.
Junior Morgan Savage played a 16-over-par 160 (83-77) in the first two rounds of play. She currently sits in 57th after carding three birdies today. Becca Black scored a two-round, 17-over-par 161 (80-81). Black secured a birdie on hole two in round one. Tatum King recorded a 24-over-par 168 (88-80) catching a birdie on the 18th hole in round two.
"As a team we struck the ball very well today," said Illinois State head coach Breanne Hall. "Unfortunately we couldn't get putts to fall. I am really proud of them for the grit they showed bouncing back in the second round and improving by 11 shots."
The third and final round of the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State, resumes Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
