NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will open the 2018-19 season with their annual Red vs. White intrasquad meet on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Horton Pool.
Scott Cameron, the head swimming coach for the Redbirds, is looking forward to entering his fourth season with the team.
"I'm excited to see our team get up and compete with each other to start off our year," Cameron said. "They have been training really well, and this is the first chance we will get to see them really compete in a dual meet setting. This meet will start us off on a good foot, give us some great information and allow us to make some adjustments moving forward as we get into meets next month."
Head diving coach Phil Hoffman returns for his 12th season with the Redbirds and is eager to see the team in action.
"After weeks of training, I am excited to have the divers in a meet setting," said Hoffman. "It should be a good gauge of where we are and where we need to improve as we head into the upcoming meets."
Additionally, the Missouri Valley Conference released its preseason coaches' poll and has voted Illinois State to take fifth overall this upcoming season, the same position the Redbirds finished at MVC championships last season.
The team's first meet against outside competition will take place on Friday, October 12th, against Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The Red vs. White meet will be the first of four home meets for the Redbirds this season. To view the full 2018-19 slate, be sure to visit the team's schedule page.
