Davis Earns Second-Straight MVFC Newcomer Honor

ST. LOUIS – For the second time in as many weeks, Illinois State junior quarterback Brady Davis has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week by the league office.

Davis was joined this week by wide receiver Cade Johnson of South Dakota State and quarterback Austin Simmons of South Dakota as Co-Offensive Players of the Week, defensive end Darin Greenfield of South Dakota as the Defensive Player of the Week and punter Brady Hale of South Dakota State as the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Last week, Davis was named the MVFC Newcomer of the Week after throwing for 123 yards and a touchdown in ISU's season-opening win over Saint Xavier. He took his game to another level against in-state foe Eastern Illinois in game two of the season, as he accounted for five touchdowns in a 38-point defeat of the Panthers in the annual-Mid-America Classic.

The Memphis transfer completed 17-of-23 (74 percent) of his passes for a career-high 317 yards with four touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. He found Spencer Schnell for a 97-yard touchdown pass (2nd longest in school history) in the second quarter to headline a dominating offensive performance for the Redbirds that saw them rack up 582 yards of total offense.

Illinois State has a bye week, before flying to Fort Collins, Colorado, for a road contest against FBS foe Colorado State on Sept. 22.
