NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State football offensive front bolstered its ranks Wednesday, as Redbird head coach Brock Spack announced the addition of Illinois fifth-year transfer Adam Solomon to his 2019 squad.
A 6-foot-6, 320-pound tackle out of Indianapolis, Solomon comes to Illinois State with one year of eligibility remaining after playing three seasons for the Illini in Champaign. He is expected to enroll in courses at Illinois State when classes begin next week and will participate in spring workouts with Redbirds.
"Adam is a big, tough, physical lineman and fills a need for us up front with the graduation of a couple seniors on the right side of our offensive line," Spack said. "We like our young tackles, but they haven't seen much action and Adam gives us some experience up front and needed depth there as we head into 2019. He's a smart player and we look forward to adding him to the program.
Solomon has played in 24 games, primarily on special teams, over the past three seasons with the Illini and has twice been named an Academic All-Big Ten selection. He earned his first career start at tackle in 2017 in the opener against Ball State.
During his prep career at Bishop Chatard High School, Solomon was ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN.com, Rivals and Scout and was touted as the No. 54 offensive line prospect in the nation by Scout. Following his senior season, he was tabbed as a top-10 overall prospect in Indiana by 247Sports (No. 8) and Scout (No. 9) and named the No. 2 offensive lineman in Indiana by 247Sports and Scout, and No. 4 by ESPN.com. He helped team Bishop Chatard to 2013 Indiana Class 4A Section title and a 2012 Class 3A state title in football, while also earning varsity letters in basketball and golf.
