COLUMBUS, Ohio – Illinois State's men's tennis squad began the first day of the ITA Midwest Regionals at Ohio State, with action play beginning with qualifying singles draws.
Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe, Diego Herrera, Diego Le Gal Perez and Aleksa Lazarevic represented Illinois State in the 64-player bracket.
Le Gal Perez defeated Valparaiso's Daniel Langston (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) and Andrew Mariados from Notre Dame (6-4, 6-4), while Jorge Bartra defeated William Everett from Youngstown State, but later came up short against DePaul's Tripp Tuff in the second round (3-6, 7-6, 7-5).
Play will continue Friday with a final round of qualifying, before main draw competitions begin later in the day. Le Gal Perez was placed into the main bracket and will open play once the qualifying players have been placed.
