ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After assisting his team in winning the 2019 Little Rock Intercollegiate title, junior Joseph Hodgson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
Hodgson's final score of three-under par (213) was tied for third highest individual score in the field. His efforts helped the Redbirds claim first place at the tournament after a playoff shoot-out against Campbell.
Hodgson started out strong, shooting one-over in the first half before coming back in the second round two-under par. He shot an eagle on the 15th hole in the second round, one of two eagles for the Redbirds in the tournament. Joe capped off his performance in the final round where he sunk only one bogey and three birdies.
This is Hodgson's first Golfer of the Week honor of his career at Illinois State and the team's second in a row. He joins David Perkins as the two Redbird golfers who have earned the honor in the fall season alone. Perkins was named Golfer of the Week after the Golfweek Conference Challenge and last week's Bearcat Invitational.
The squad returns to action Nov. 1-3 when they travel to Nassau, Bahamas to close out their 2019 fall season in the White Sand Intercollegiate.
