Illinois State Hosts Lindenwood for Wednesday Night Exhibition

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team opens the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday night, as the Redbirds host Lindenwood in exhibition play. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lindenwood returns two starters from last year's squad that went 21-8 and advanced to the Central Regional for the second season in a row. Senior Kallie Bildner was named to the all-MIAA First Team, leading the MIAA in points, rebounds and shooting percentage. Senior starting point guard Lindsay Medlen tallied 90 assists last season.

The Lions are led by second-year head coach Katie Falco, who led the 2018-2019 team to a program-record 21 wins and 14 conference wins. She joined Lindenwood after spending the previous 10 seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA DI South Dakota.

SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
Illinois State returns five of the top seven scorers from last season, including MVC Newcomer of the Year TeTe Maggett. Significant returners include Maggett (15.9 points per game), redshirt freshman guard Mary Crompton (8.0), senior forward Lexi Wallen (5.4), sophomore forward Lexy Koudelka (4.5) and sophomore guard Kayel Newland (4.4).

Kristen Gillespie enters her third season at the helm of the Redbirds, after leading the squad to a 19-12 record last year. The 19 wins a season ago were the most in the last six seasons for the 'Birds and their 11-7 MVC record was their best since 2012-13.

ISU hosts Truman State in the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Redbird Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
