The Illinois State women's basketball team had quite a debut on Wednesday night, posting an 89-61 win over Lindenwood in exhibition play at Redbird Arena. Every available Redbird saw time on the court as ISU combined to shoot 38-of-68 (55.9%) from the floor.
Senior guard TeTe Maggett recorded a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds while graduate student forward Lexi Wallen posted a team-high 21 points. Redshirt freshman Mary Crompton went 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, finishing with 18 points on the night.
"We have a lot of weapons in our arsenal," said head coach Kristen Gillespie. "That's the fun thing – at any given time we have a group of five that really can score the ball."
The Redbirds scored the first points of the day off a lay-up from Wallen and never relinquished the lead. Wallen and Crompton combined for 24 points in the first quarter alone to give ISU a commanding 35-19 advantage. The 'Birds did not allow Lindenwood to come within 10 points for the remainder of the game. Illinois State out-rebounded the Lions, 38-32.
Lindenwood's Lindsay Medlen and Kallie Beldner had a team-high 11 points in the loss.
