ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the third time this fall, senior David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for his performance at the White Sands Intercollegiate in Nassau, Bahamas.
Perkins scored 206 (-10) against a nationally ranked field on the par-72, 7,159-yard course, where he went 68-73-65 over three rounds. His final round score of 65, which included an eagle and six birdies, was the second lowest round score in the tournament.
The Redbirds battle against a strong field that included top-ranked Wake Forest, SMU (2), Arkansas (22), host University of Houston (39), and UAB (46). Illinois State tied with SMU for seventh place with a score of 852 (-12).
This is now Perkins' tenth Golfer of the Week honor in his career, tying him with alumni Trent Wallace for most among Redbirds. Out of the five tournaments Illinois State has played this fall, four have resulted in a Redbird being named Golfer of the Week. Last outing, junior Joseph Hodgson was given the honor.
The squad returns to action Feb. 1 when they compete with the Illinois Illini in the annual Tinervin Cup in Placida, Florida.
