ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After a career-low performance from Illinois State freshman Fernando Cobo Delgado, the first-year Redbird has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Played at Kampen-Cosler Golf Course, Cobo Delgado ended his tournament with a four-under 68, which is tied for the fifth-lowest score by a Redbird freshman in program history, while his tournament score of 212 (-4) is tied for the sixth lowest in school history by a freshman golfer.
Cobo Delgado had five birdies and a dozen pars in his round, as he tied for fifth overall in the tournament. His par three scoring average (2.83, -2) was tied for the second lowest in the field, as was his par-five scoring average (4.58, -5). He also had the fourth-most pars over the 36 holes in the tournament.
This season he is second on the team in scoring average, at 73.3 strokes per round with the team's lowest tournament score and tied for the lowest round on the squad. He is one of two players with a top-10 finish this season, and has five rounds at or under par in a dozen rounds on the season.
The Redbirds close play in the 2026 fall season starting on Monday, October 19 when the team tees off at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
