NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State gymnastics head coach Bob Conkling announced Thursday that graduate assistant Megan Harrington has been promoted to the position of assistant coach for the Redbirds starting Jan. 1, 2020.
"We are excited to have Megan move from a graduate assistant position to a full-time assistant coach," said Conkling. "Megan did a fantastic job for the team this past season as a graduate assistant and I really wanted to make sure we were able to keep her here as a gymnastics coach."
Harrington's gymnastic career started in Normal at Gymnastics Etc. She later received a full ride scholarship to compete at Bowling Green. There, she competed on all-around three out of her four years and individually qualified for NCAA regionals in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She was also named All-Mid-American Conference Second-Team selection in 2013 and 2014.
"I have known Megan since 2005 and it's been great to watch her gymnastics career progress," said Conkling. "I'm so proud of the young woman she has become and how she embraces her responsibilities as a coach and mentor for the team."
A 2015 graduate of Bowling Green, Harrington double majored in Communication and Event Planning. Harrington will graduate in May 2020 with her master in Recreation Administration from Illinois State.
