15 Redbirds Earn WCGA Scholastic All-America Honors

NORMAL, Ill. – A total of 15 current and former Redbird student-athletes were recognized as Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-America team members, as announced by the organization Wednesday.

Redbird gymnasts Kamryn Banach, Jada Beswick, Leah Davis, Mackenzie Flutman, Mia Foy, Abbey Harris, Julia Heiner, Audrey Hiatt, Jaly Jones, Jercy Koliego, Alyssa Lau, Mia LeBlanc, Mia Oh, Courtney Woods and Joy Ziegenfelder each posted GPAs of 3.5 or above to earn WCGA Scholastic All-America honors.

Overall, 1,195 student-athletes earned a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, 77.15% of all reporting gymnasts, the most ever by percentage (since available records in 2008). There were 293 (18.92%) student-athletes with a 4.0
GPA. This was the sixth year in a row with more than 1,000 Scholastic All-America winners, and two of the top five universities broke into the lineup for the first time ever. Across all gymnasts this year, the average GPA was a
3.6339 which is the second highest (since available records in 2015), 70 institutions had a team GPA of a 3.5 or better, and in eleven of the last twelve years, at least one institution each year has had 100% of its athletes qualify
for this prestigious award (four institutions achieved 100% honors this year).

"The WCGA could not be more proud of the extraordinary standard of academic excellence set by our collegiate women's gymnastics programs each and every year. Achieving elite performance on the competition floor requires
immense discipline, and balancing that with top-tier academic dedication in the classroom is a testament to the team culture, character, and work ethic of these student-athletes," Sarah Brown, Chair of the WCGA Board of
Directors said. "Each and every program has demonstrated that our sport is built on a foundation of total excellence, and the relentless commitment of these young women to their education inspires our entire coaching community."
