Freshmen Shine in Narrow Loss to Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. – Lexy Koudelka and Kayel Newland each surpassed their personal bests in points and rebounds tonight in Illinois State's hard-fought loss to Bradley. The two squads are now tied in league standings, each with an 8-6 MVC record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Redbirds were caught in foul trouble early on, sending Bradley to the line nine times. The Braves converted six points in the first quarter at the charity stripe and pulled ahead 14-11. Lexy Koudelka was a force to be reckoned with down low, adding nine points in the paint for ISU.

The 'Birds battled back in the second quarter, tying the game at the halftime buzzer. A pair of shots from Lexi Wallen and Simone Goods tightened the gap to two with 42 seconds to play. TeTe Maggett added the last shot of the half with eight seconds remaining. The Bradley Braves were unsuccessful against the Redbird defense in the final moments and the two squads entered the locker room with 28 each.

Illinois State could not find a way in front of the Braves in the second half, resulting in a 75-65 Bradley win. The two teams are now tied in league standings each sitting 8-6 in MVC.

"We let what was going on, on the offensive end affect how we defended. That can't happen."
