Redbird Baseball Drops Series Opener to Bears 6-4

CONWAY, Ark. – Illinois State dropped the first game of the series to Central Arkansas Saturday night. The Redbirds lost in the bottom of the ninth inning on a walk-off two-run home run that lifted the Bears to a 6-4 victory.

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Hutchinson put Illinois State on the board first with a single up the middle to score Parola, as Illinois State scored in the first inning for the fourth straight game. ISU led 1-0 after the first.
  • The Bears scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.
  • Central Arkansas took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
  • Joe Butler grounded into a double play in the top of the sixth inning that scored Aeilts to tie the game back up at two runs apiece. However, the Bears answered in the home half on a double to retake the lead 3-2.
  • Rave hit a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the seventh to tie the game back up at 3-3. The Bears responded in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI double to take the lead back 4-3.
  • In the ninth inning, Hays grounded out scoring Butler to tie the game at four. Central Arkansas would once again answer in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run to defeat Illinois State by a final score of 6-4.
