SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Redbird Aleksa Lazarevic was selected as the Summit League Player of the Week the league announced, Tuesday.
"I am very pleased to see Aleksa win this award," head coach Mark Klysner said. "He has been a great teammate, extremely coachable and the results have shown. He has been a nice addition for us."
Lazarevic is in his freshman season with the 'Birds after joining the team in the spring. He maintains a team-high 7-1 record in singles.
Lazarevic has won six straight matches, only falling in his first match of the season.
Lazarevic overcame Chicago State's Nicholas Liddy, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot and Gonzalo Martinez, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 4 spot.
On Saturday, he defeated UMKC's Anil Patel, 6-3, 6-0. Lazarevic closed out the weekend with 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, win against NIU's Mikko Malinen, finishing 4-0 overall in singles for the weekend.Â
He maintains a 1-2 doubles record, playing in the No. 3 spot.
The Redbirds are 5-3 overall and 4-1 on their home court this season. Lazarevic and the 'Birds will be back on the court, Friday, Feb. 8 to host a doubleheader with UIS and Eastern Illinois at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
