Redbirds Tee off Spring Season in Mobile, Alabama

MOBILE, Ala – Illinois State travels south to Mobile, Alabama, to compete in the 2019 Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, kicking off the spring 2019 tournament season for the squad.

Format: 36 holes Monday; 8 a.m. CST shotgun start, 18 holes Tuesday; 8 a.m. CST teeing off on holes 1 and 10

Competing Teams: Abilene Christian, Florida State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Louisville, Nicholls, North Alabama, Oral Roberts, Richmond, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Texas State, Western Kentucky

History at the Event: This will be Illinois State's 11th appearance at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Last season, the Redbirds placed fourth out of 16 schools led by then sophomore David Perkins, who finished tied for 12th individually and earned a Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors that time around.

About the Course: Recently named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses" by Golf World Magazine readers, the newly renovated course features creeks, marshland, and lakes amongst wooded areas. The Crossings have several water features that were added during renovations, and have hosted LPGA Tour events in the past.

Last Time Out: The Redbirds ended the fall 2018 season finishing third place out of 17 schools at the Little Rock Invitational. Senior Trent Wallace led the squad, tying for second place individually out of 89 golfers. David Rauer also had a standout performance, finishing in a tie for sixth place individually.

Next Time Out: Illinois State will travel to Tampa, Florida to compete in the USF Invitational from March 11 – March 12.
