NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team will continue on the road this week for its first mid-week matchups of the season. On Tuesday, the Redbirds are set to play SEMO in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Illinois State will play the next day at SIUE in Edwardsville, Illinois. First pitch for Tuesday's game is set for 3:00 p.m., while Wednesday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Illinois State Redbirds (8-5)
Illinois State defeated No. 1 Vanderbilt in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday 7-3. It was the Redbirds' first win over a top 10 opponent since defeating No. 9 Oregon on February 27, 2016. The Redbirds have stolen the same amount of bases this season as last season (27), and are ranked 27th nationally in stolen bases and 24th in stolen bases per game with 2.08.
Southeast Missouri State (10-5)
SEMO is coming off a series loss at home to UT-Martin. It was the first conference series of the season for the Redhawks. SEMO played one game at Vanderbilt this year, as they fell 11-3 to the Commodores on February 26.
Southern Illinois Edwardsville (4-7)
SIUE lost a series last weekend to Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. It was the first conference series of the year from them as well. The Cougars come into the matchup striking out just over one batter per inning this season.
Series Records
Illinois State comes into the mid-week matchups holding an edge over both opponents in the all-time series. ISU is 15-3-1 against SEMO and 17-7-1 against SIUE. The Redbirds swept SEMO in 2015, outscoring the Redhawks 21-11. Illinois State lost last year to SIUE by a final score of 7-2 in 10 innings.
