Pitching Breakdown:

Quote from Coach Holm on the seven-run third inning from CMU
"Once you're chasing a seven spot it's tough. Usually if you're that far down they're going to have to let you back into the game, and this team all weekend did an incredible job of not beating themselves, and forcing you to beat them."

Scoring Breakdown:

  • In the top of third inning, Central Michigan scored seven runs including a grand slam in the inning to get ahead of Illinois State 7-0 after three innings.
  • The Chippewas scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 9-0. Illinois State responded with one run in the home half of the inning, as Butler hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Libman. CMU led ISU 9-1 after four.
  • Central Michigan singled up the middle to score a run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 10-1 after five innings of play.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hays hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Libman again to make the score 10-2 after six innings.
  • In the top of the eighth inning, Central Michigan scored on an error to push across its eleventh run of the game. That would be the final score as Central Michigan defeated Illinois State 11-2 in the series finale.
