Quote from Coach Holm on scoring early and Wicklund today
"We've done a great job all year pretty much scoring early. We scored two runs in that first inning, and it makes it so much easier on our pitching staff to know that there's a little bit of a lead. It allows them to just get more aggressive in the strike zone which you saw Wicklund do today."
Scoring Breakdown:
- Aeilts started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run that scored Libman as well to put ISU up 2-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Peterson fouled out down the left field line, but Aeilts tagged up from third base to score to put the 'Birds up 3-0.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rave singled through the left side to bring home Carpenter to extend the lead to 4-0.
- The Flames had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Gilmore struck out the final batter of the game. Illinois State defeated UIC by a final score of 4-0.
