CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team lost the series opener at Illinois on Friday afternoon by a final score of 14-3. The Redbirds scored three runs on just four hits.

Scoring Breakdown:
- Illinois scored first in the bottom of the third inning on a single to go up 1-0 on Illinois State after three complete innings.
- The Fighting Illini scored five runs in the home half of the fourth inning. The Illini got three runs via home run, and two more on a single. Illinois led Illinois State 6-0 after four innings.
- ISU scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Parola reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Jack Butler to make the score 6-1. Illinois scored four more runs in the home half of the inning to increase its lead to 10-1.
- Rave doubled in the top of the seventh inning to bring home Butler once again. The Redbirds trailed the Fighting Illini 10-2.
- Huggins reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the eighth inning to score Tyson Hays. Illinois responded with four runs of its own in the inning. Illinois led Illinois 14-3 after eight innings. That would be the conclusion of the scoring in the game, as Illinois defeated Illinois State 14-3 in game one of the series.
