CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team fell short at Illinois Field on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. The Redbirds scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning, but ultimately fell short in the comeback effort.

"We played much better today than yesterday. Lindgren did a great job of pitching through traffic and minimizing. Sometimes you got to tip your cap to the other pitcher. He did a great job all day. We finally got to him, but it was obviously a little late."
Scoring Breakdown:
- Illinois scored in the bottom of the second inning on a single up the middle to go up 1-0 on Illinois State.
- The Fighting Illini added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a double to right field to plate a run to go up 2-0.
- Illinois scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single to increase its lead to 3-0.
- Illinois increased the lead in the home half of the seventh inning on a double to left-center field to go up 4-0 on Illinois State.
- The Redbirds battled back in the top of the ninth inning, as Aeilts doubled to left-center to score John Rave to make the score 4-1. Joe Butler singled to left in the inning to plate Aeilts. The 'Birds scored two runs in the inning, but the comeback fell short. Illinois defeated Illinois State 4-2.
