Quote from Coach Holm on getting refocused and preparing for Milwaukee
"Every good team has a weekend like we just had. Nothing goes right. You don't hit, pitch, or defend. The season is never defined by that particular weekend, it's defined by how you respond after. There are a few parts of our game that has slowly gotten sloppy. Those parts were obviously exposed this weekend by a good Illinois club. Now we get a chance to put a little more focus on those small details."
Scoring Breakdown:
- Illinois scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump ahead of Illinois State 5-0.
- The Fighting Illini added four more runs in the very next inning on a couple of hits including a home run to extend its lead to 9-0 over ISU,
- Illinois hit solo home runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to increase its lead to 11-0.
- The Redbirds scored in the bottom of the fifth inning on Butler's single to right field to bring home Rave. Illinois led Illinois State 11-1 after five innings.
- Troike hit a home run for the second time of the day for the Fighting Illini in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 12-1. That would be the conclusion of the scoring as Illinois defeated Illinois State.
