Redbirds Drop Mid-Week Matchup to Milwaukee, 6-3

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team lost Tuesday Evening to the Milwaukee Panthers by a final score of 6-3 at Duffy Bass Field. The Redbirds scored three runs in the eighth inning, and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth, but a groundout concluded the contest.

Top Hitters

  • Joe Aeilts: 3-for-5, 2B, Run
  • Nick Zouras: 2-for-4, 2 2B
  • Joe Butler: 1-for-4, RBI
  • Jack Butler: 0-for-4, RBI

Pitching Breakdown:

Quote from Coach Holm on the team
"We obviously have not swung the bat very well lately. I see a lot of our guys pressing. It's good to see some balls fall a little bit for them. We haven't had a lot of luck on the offensive side. When we have hit the ball it's gone at somebody. To get something rolling sometimes you just need something to fall, and you'll get one guy started, another guy started, and then you get the whole line moving again."

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Milwaukee scored in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to center field. The Panthers led the Redbirds 1-0.
  • In the top of the seventh, it was the Panthers again, as the team scored five runs to make the score 6-0 over the 'Birds.
  • In the bottom of the eighth inning, Joe Butler singled on a hit that went off the pitcher to score Derek Parola for the first run of the game for ISU. Next, Jack Butler reached on a fielder's choice, but an error on the play scored Jordan Libman. Then, Aeilts was able to score later in the inning on a wild pitch to make the score 6-3 after eight innings.
  • Illinois State threatened in the bottom of the ninth, as the Redbirds had runners on second and third with one out, but back-to-back outs would end the game. Milwaukee defeated Illinois State by a final score of 6-3.
