NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off a sweep of the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, the Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams will open the outdoor campaign Friday when they host the inaugural Redbird Intrasquad meet at the Redbird Track & Field Complex in Normal, Illinois.
MEET INFORMATION
The Redbird Intrasquad is one of two opportunities for fans to catch the 'Birds in action at home during the outdoor season, with the second being the Redbird Invite on April 6. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:40 p.m. with the javelin competition. Track events will follow at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
All events will be held outside on the Redbird Track, except for the pole vault and high jump competitions, which will commence inside Horton Field House. Admission to the meet is free of charge. For fans who cannot be in attendance, real-time results will be available on Twitter via @Redbird_TrackXC and on GoRedbirds.com following the meet.
WHAT TO EXPECT
For the Redbird Intrasquad, the Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams have been split into two squads, the Black Team and the Red Team, and will compete against each other to see who comes out on top. The meet will be scored using the dual-scoring system, and a men's and women's team winner will be named. Scores will also be combined to determine an overall winner between the Red and Black Teams.
Friday's meet will feature the following track events: 100-meter, 300-meter, 600-meter, 1,000-meter, 3,000-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, and the 4x400-meter relay. Hand-timing will be utilized for each event. All field events will be conducted with the exception of the triple jump.

The Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams will compete in their first official meets next weekend, when the team splits to compete in the Ole Miss Classic, San Francisco State Distance Carnival, and Stanford Invitational on March 29-30.
