NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team will travel to Champaign-Urbana for the annual Illinois Classic meet on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 2 p.m. The Redbirds will compete against UIC, Northern Illinois, and the host Illini inside Huff Hall.

At Illinois Classic: The Redbirds came in fourth place at last year's Illinois Classic (March 11, 2018) with a score of 188.550, with Illinois placing first (195.025), UIC in second (194.7250) and Northern Illinois in third (194.400) … Illinois State's highest score of the day was on floor exercise with a 47.575 ... Gabrielle Cooke placed third in the all-around (39.075) ... The Redbirds placed second (193.550) at the 2017 Illinois Classic behind Illinois (196.150), as Northern Illinois came in third (193.550) followed by UIC (193.525) … Meredith LaRoche placed fourth in the all-around competition (38.825) … Cooke placed first on floor exercise with a score of 9.900
Redbird News and Notes: This past weekend, Illinois State held the lead over Northern Illinois until the final rotation when the Huskies rallied to defeat the Redbirds 193.350-192.050 … Cooke won the all-around with a score of 38.575 … Sofia Iribarren placed first, earning a season high of 9.825 on uneven bars … LaRoche earned weekly honors from the Midwest Independent Conference for Performance of the Week with a solid vault at Ball State (Feb. 24).
About The Illini: Illinois was defeated by No. 6 Denver 197.775-195.025 … The Illini posted a season high on beam 49.175 … Illinois recorded a 49.000 on vault, 49.050 on floor, and a 47.800 on uneven bars… The Illini recorded six top-three finishes individually.
About The Flames: UIC had their ninth straight win on March 5 in a dual meet at Western Michigan (194.650-194.325) … The Flames earned a season high score on beam with a 48.975 … Junior Serena Baker won bars for the sixth time this season (9.850).
About The Huskies: Northern Illinois was able to bounce back in a close meet to defeat Illinois State 193.350-192.050 (March 1) … On beam, five of the six gymnasts tied or exceeded their season and career high scores for a total of 49.175, the highest score by a Huskie team since 2006 … Junior Cinny Lamberti won vault as she tied a career high with a 9.850.
