NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams will remain close to home this week, traveling to nearby Terre Haute, Indiana, for Indiana State's Pacesetter Sports Invitational on April 19-20. Jack Anstey will take a different path, competing in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, on Friday, April 19.
PACESETTER INVITATIONAL MEET INFORMATION
The Pacesetter Sports Invitational will be held at the Gibson Track & Field Complex on April 19-20. The Redbirds will begin competition on Friday at 3 p.m. CT when the men's and women's hammer and javelin throwers get things underway. The men's and women's 5,000-meters will also commence on Friday, starting at 4 p.m. CT. The remainder of the ISU track and field squad will compete on Saturday, with field events scheduled to start at 11 a.m. CT and track events slated for 12 p.m. CT.
For fans who cannot be in attendance, live results will be provided by TimingMD (click here). Real-time results will also be posted on the @Redbird_TrackXC Twitter page, as well as on GoRedbirds.com following the conclusion of each day of competition.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
In addition to the Redbirds and host Sycamores, this weekend's meet will feature men's and women's teams from Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Iowa Central, Lipscomb, Marian (Ind.), Oakland, and Xavier. IUPUI's women's squad will also be in attendance.
Friday and Saturday's meet at the Gibson Track and Field Complex will be invaluable for the Redbirds, as Indiana State is the host of the 2019 MVC Outdoor Championships in a few short weeks. The 'Birds will be able to test-out the very facility in which they will battle for a conference crown on May 10-12.
THE PATH LESS TRAVELED BY
Anstey will stray from the beaten path this weekend, as he heads west to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, on Friday. The meet will take place at the Cougar Athletic Stadium on Azusa Pacific's East Campus.
After posting a 1:48.78 800-meter mark at the Tennessee Relays last weekend, Anstey will switch things up this weekend, racing in his signature event, the 1,500-meter. The reigning MVC Male Track Athlete of the Week, Anstey will run in section eight of the 1,500-meter invitational on Friday night. The invite section is scheduled for a 9:50 p.m. CT start, and there are 10 total heats that will progress from slow to fast.
Anstey's race could very well be a preview of what's to come at the 2019 outdoor Valley meet, as his heat features Kevin White of Loyola and Michael Ward of Bradley, two of the top-runners in the MVC. Friday's race will be a great test for all three competitors with the Valley Championships right around the corner.
For fans who wish to follow along with Anstey's race, live results will be provided by Finished Results (click here), and can also be accessed on Twitter via @Redbird_TrackXC. The meet will be streamed on FloTrack as well, and will be available to FloTrack Pro subscribers. Plans start at $12.49 per month.
NEXT UP
The Illinois State men's and women's track & field teams will compete in two separate meets next week: the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 25 and Louisville's Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invitational on April 26-27.
