DES MOINES, Iowa –The 5,000 meter trio of Grace Beattie, Kyle Mattes and Kevin Koski took the track against some of the best collegiate runners in the country Thursday night at the prestigious Drake Relays.
All three were running their first 5,000 meter races of the outdoor season and each performed well on the big stage.
Beattie was the first to compete in the women's seeded 5,000 and notched a top 10 finish in her season debut. Beattie clocked a time of 16:48.85 to finish 9th overall and the time put her name at No. 7 on the women's outdoor all-time list.
Koski followed in the men's unseeded 5,000 and also tallied a ninth place finish with a time of 14:47.32.
Mattes capped off the night in the men's 5,000 seeded race and clocked a time of 14:23.55 to finish in 14th overall.
