Redbirds Set For Mid-week Matchup at Northwestern

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State baseball will return to action tomorrow when the team heads to Evanston to play the Northwestern Wildcats in a nonconference matchup. The first pitch at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Illinois State Redbirds (27-17, 9-3 MVC)

The Redbirds come into the mid-week matchup on a two-game skid after a conference series loss at Dallas Baptist. The 'Birds led in all three games against the Patriots, but were ultimately outscored 32-16 on the weekend. After the weekend, ISU still leads the Missouri Valley Conference in five different statistical categories as a team. The Redbirds lead the conference in batting average (.317), at-bats (436), hits (138), doubles (33), and home runs (16).

Northwestern Wildcats (18-22, 6-9 Big Ten)

The Wildcats also come into the series after a weekend conference series loss against Michigan State. The Spartans outscored the Wildcats 18-8 in the series. Northwestern is 66th in country with 59 stolen bases and ranked 60th nationally in stolen bases per game (1.48).

Series History

Northwestern leads Illinois State in the all-time series, holding a 14-8 advantage. The Redbirds won the last matchup between the two teams back in 2016 by a score of 10-4 in the Snowbird Classic.
