Columbia, Mo. – Redbirds finished day one in fourth after a strong 36-holes at the Tiger Invitational.
Illinois State came out swinging in the first day of the tournament, finishing the first 36-holes 16 strokes under par. The squad follows behind TCU, Missouri, and Kansas State, who are a part of the Big 12 Conference, and TCU holding a national ranking of 35
Leading the Redbirds today was junior Joel Durnford who finished seven under par in the first two rounds, four under in the first and three under in the second. In the two rounds, he sunk 11 birdies and is tied for sixth individually among 78 golfers.
Helping out Durnford was junior David Perkins, who shot five under in the two rounds and sunk nine birdies. He is tied for 13th after the first day. Sophomore Daniel Anfield also had a strong day as he finished the first 36 tied for 24thand three under par. 
Senior Trent Wallace also finished the day under par by one stroke. Wallace is tied for 35thindividually. Senior David Rauer finished the second round even and finished the day with a score of 150.
"The weather conditions were ideal today for scoring, so we're in the middle of a shootout as many took advantage," coach Ray Kralis said after today's match. "I thought we had a solid first day with contributions from everyone, and we're looking forward to getting back after it tomorrow. We don't expect the teams in front of us to back up, so we'll see if we can chase them down. It is certainly possible with this group."
The squad returns to action for the final round with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
