NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will welcome in-state rival Illinois to Normal on Tuesday afternoon. The Redbirds will play host to the Fighting Illini at Duffy Bass Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
Illinois State Redbirds (17-14, 2-1 MVC)
Illinois State enters the mid-week matchup as winners of four of its last five games, including a series win to open conference play over the Valparaiso Crusaders. This is the first time since 2014 that the Redbirds have opened the conference season with a series win. The Redbirds are batting .295 as a team, which ranks 34th nationally, and their 330 hits on the year ranks 26th nationally.
Illinois Fighting Illini (20-10, 1-5 Big Ten)
Illinois enters the week coming off a conference series loss to Maryland. The Fighting Illini split the first two games of the contest on Friday and Saturday before falling on Sunday to the Terrapins. Illinois comes into the contest ranked 23rd nationally in ERA (3.32) and 10th in hits allowed per nine innings (6.91).

Illinois leads Illinois State in the all-time series, holding a 55-32 advantage. The Fighting Illini swept the Redbirds in a three-game series earlier this season in Champaign. Illinois outscored Illinois State 30-6 during the series.
