NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State baseball will return to action this weekend when the team plays host to Indiana State in Normal for a three-game conference series in a battle for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m. with Saturday being Stuff the Duff at Duffy Bass Field at 2 p.m. Sunday will conclude the weekend with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
Illinois State Redbirds (27-18, 9-3 MVC)
The Redbirds come into the weekend on a three-game skid after a conference series loss at Dallas Baptist, and a mid-week loss at Northwestern. Illinois State still leads the Missouri Valley Conference in five different statistical categories as a team. The Redbirds lead the conference in batting average (.317), at-bats (436), hits (138), doubles (33), and home runs (16).
Indiana State Sycamores (32-10, 9-3 MVC)
The Sycamores come into the weekend winners of four of their last five dropping their most recent contest on Wednesday at Illinois, 5-2. Indiana State is tied for first in conference play in triples (4), and has the least amount of strikeouts (58) through 12 games. The Sycamores lead the Valley in pitching ERA (2.62), hits allowed (76), runs (35), earned runs (31), and tied for first place with Illinois State for the least amount of walks (35).
Series History
Indiana State leads Illinois State in the all-time series, holding a 106-83 advantage. The Redbirds won the series last season in Terre Haute taking two straight games on Saturday and Sunday.
