NORMAL, Ill. – The 2019 Missouri Valley Conference baseball co-champion Illinois State baseball team (34-24, 14-7 MVC) will find out their postseason fate when they gather together to watch the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Selection Show on Monday at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
Illinois State head coach Steve Holm, his staff and student-athletes will convene in the Hancock Stadium Club Monday morning to watch the show, and fans, family and alumni are welcome to come await the team's reaction. Parking will be made available in lots surrounding the stadium.
The Redbirds shared the regular season title with Dallas Baptist and took home a plethora of postseason honors. Right fielder Joe Aeilts was named MVC Joe Carter Player of the Year, left-handed starting pitcher Brent Headrick was named Pitcher of the Year first year head coach Steve Holm was honored as the MVC Dan Callahan Coach of the Year. Along with Aeilts and Headrick, juniors Joe Butler and John Rave were named to the All-MVC First Team. Sophomore, Jack Butler was named to the All-MVC honorable Mention team and Rave was also named to the All-MVC Defensive Team for a third straight season.
ISU is currently listed at No. 26 in the latest RPI report. Among Top 25 RPI teams, only Oregon State, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, East Carolina and UCLA have a better Non-Conference SOS than DBU and Illinois State. In addition, Illinois State is tied for third in the NCAA in road wins, with the team's 19 true road wins on the season tied for third with VCU and Central Michigan. The Redbirds' 36 road games are tied for third nationally, trailing only Oakland (39) and Canisius (37).
