Top Hitters

  • Gunner Peterson: 3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI
  • Joe Butler: 4-for-5, 3B, 1 Run
  • Joe Aeilts: 3-for-5, 1 Run

Pitching Breakdown:

  • Brent Headrick (Starter, W, 6-3): 9.0 IP, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K's

Quote from Coach Holm on Headrick's pitching performance
"Normally we do not have many guys go nine because we have a pretty conservative pitch count, but you know this late in the season he is really built up, and he really only had the one inning where there was any traffic at all. It just looked like he was in control, so we went back with him, and he delivered to give us one more chance to win it."

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Peterson singled through the right side in the bottom of the third inning to score Jordan Libman and Aeilts to put the Redbirds on the board first, 2-0.
  • Indiana State tied, and took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. A two-run single tied the game, then a sacrifice fly drove home the go-ahead run in the inning. The Sycamores led the Redbirds 3-2. Peterson doubled in the home half of the inning to score Joe Butler to tie the game back up at three runs apiece.
  • Libman singled through the left side to reach first base in the bottom of the ninth inning. Gaines came into the game to pinch run, and was moved to second base after Joe Butler singled in the inning. A wild pitch put Gaines on the move to third. The throw sailed into left field that allowed Gaines to come home and score. The Redbirds defeated the Sycamores, 4-3.
