LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Illinois State will take on Indiana tomorrow in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in the Louisville Regional hosted at Jim Patterson Stadium. The No. 3 seeded Redbirds and No. 2 seed Hoosiers will play at 1 p.m. Both teams won at least a share of their regular season conference title.
No. 1 Louisville and No. 4 UIC will play at 5 p.m. Each team in the Louisville Regional has the Conference Pitcher of the Year from each of their respective leagues.
Illinois State Redbirds (34-24, 14-7 MVC)
Illinois State won its first two games before losing two straight games in the MVC Tournament. The 'Birds received an at-large bid on selection Monday for the first time in program history. The Redbirds enter the contest ranked in the top-75 in six different offensive categories.
Indiana Hoosiers (36-21, 17-7 Big Ten)
Indiana also received an at-large bid after losing its first two games in the Big Ten Tournament to Iowa, 4-2, and Minnesota, 9-4. The Hoosiers rank in the top-75 in eight offensive categories on the season including second in the nation in home runs with 90. Indiana finished second in the big ten this season in hitting and third in pitching statistics.
Series History
Indiana holds a narrow 3-2 advantage over Illinois State in the all-time series. The two teams last squared off in 2016 at the Snowbird Classic Tournament, with the Hoosiers coming out victorious, 14-1.
