NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team has been selected as an Academic Top 25 Team, announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Tuesday.
"What an Incredible day for our program," head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "I am so proud of our young women. I think this award is a direct reflection of our culture that we have worked so hard to establish. We are not only recruiting high level basketball players but high-level students."
Illinois State was tabbed at No. 9, holding a program record of a 3.6 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale. Every player maintained above a 3.0 GPA in the spring semester and six student-athletes finished with a 4.0 GPA.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.
