DES MOINES, Iowa – Illinois State thrower, Sydney Laufenberg, finished 14th in the women's discus at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships on Sunday afternoon at Drake Stadium.
Laufenberg's best mark of 53.81 meters (176-6 ft.) out of three attempts was the seventh best among the first flight of competitors in the women's discus final. Following the second flight, Laufenberg's mark was 14th and did not advance her to the final round.
"I'm really proud of the hard work Sydney put in this year," assistant coach (throws) Jeff Rebholz said. "It wasn't the result we were looking for, but it doesn't diminish the great season and progress she has made this season. I think she is up for the challenge of having an even better season next year."
Laufenberg earned Second Team All-America honors in the discus and set the ISU discus record (187-0 ft.) earlier this season. Her top mark of 187-0 ft. remains the 20th best in the nation this year and the 13th best among NCAA student-athletes.
