The players, coaches, staff, and guests took in a two-hour tour of the Vatican, including spending time in the Sistine Chapel.
"It was very impressive," said Redbird senior Jaycee Hillsman. "Just seeing all of the artwork and everything that went into the buildings, it was impressive. It made it even better to see it with our team – it was special seeing the history and the things that were involved with the Catholic Church."
"The Vatican is unbelievable," said ISU head coach Dan Muller. "If you are blessed enough to be in Rome, go. The history, the story of the country is unbelievable. I really like how our players enjoyed it – they soaked it all in. It's hard to fathom how some of these sculptures, some of these tapestries, some of these paintings were done between 500 and 2,500 years ago."
On Tuesday evening, Illinois State will play in its second of two games, facing off against BC Silute starting at 8:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CT).
