CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team finished up the second day of the Cougar Classic by going undefeated in their matches. The 'Birds ended the tournament going 4-0 in singles matches and 1-2 in doubles matches.
Junior Laura Fitzgerald defeated University of Chicago's Nicole Semenov 6-4, 6-3 and freshman Elena Jankulovska took down University of Chicago's Amanda Sharng 6-2, 6-3. The two Redbirds went undefeated in singles play this tournament. The duo also teamed up in doubles play, defeating Cardinal Stritch's Klara Smolikova/Antonia Elze 8-4. The pair finished 1-2 in doubles play at the classic.
"We made some adjustments and were able to more aggressive in doubles today," commented Coach Maja Kovacek. "Overall I'm happy with how the tournament went, it's what we needed to get our doubles better."
The Redbirds will be back in action next weekend at the Bradley Invitational, with play starting on Friday, September 20.
