ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Illinois State senior David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after his performance as the Golfweek Conference Challenge. This is the first honor Men's Golf has earned in the 2019-20 season.
Perkins earned medalist honors at the tournament, scoring a 206 (-10) in three rounds. He was one of just two golfers to shoot under par in all three rounds. His best round came in the second day, when he went bogey-free and sunk five birdies.
This is Perkins' first tournament win in his collegiate career. He managed to finish top-10 at ten different tournaments over his three-plus years at Illinois State. The last Redbird golfer to bring home a tournament win was Joel Durnford at the 2018 Dayton Invitational.
Last season, the Redbirds earned ten MVC Golfer of the Week Honors, with Perkins racking up three of the honors and Durnford earning two.
The squad will be back in action Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the Bearcat Invitational.
