Redbird Gymnastics Opens 2020 Season at Home

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Gymnastics team officially opens the 2020 season at Horton Field House against New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Admission is free to all home gymnastics meets.

"We are excited to kick off the 2020 season at home against New Hampshire. Some minor injuries have changed our line-up this past week, but we are confident that everyone on the team will step up and be confident in their abilities to compete and do their best on their routines." 

Redbird News and Notes:
The Redbirds are led by head coach Bob Conkling, who begins his 16th seasons for the Redbirds … ISU returns 13 gymnasts from last year's squad and welcomes three true freshmen to the roster … the team placed second in the MIC Conference Championship last year … returning senior Gabrielle Cooke earned MIC All- Conference 1st team on vault, beam, floor and all-around and recorded a season best 39.025 in the all-around last season … returning sophomore Mia Quigg tied for fourth on floor at the MIC Conference Championship to earn 1st team All-Conference honor as a freshman … junior Cameron Topp also returns as the MIC Champion on floor, after posting a career-high of 9.900 last season … the Redbirds finished their 2019 season ranked no. 56 with a season high score of 195.0750 during the Illinois Classic on March 9, 2019. 

About the Wildcats:
The Wildcats return 12 gymnasts from last year's roster and welcome six freshman to the 2020 roster … UNH finished their 2019 season ranked no. 34 with a season-high score of 196.1750 in a victory over Yale on Mar. 8, 2019 … UNH earned the No. 1 ranking in the EAGL Preseason Poll, which consists of among the league's six head coaches … the Wildcats captured the 2019 EAGL Championship in Whittemore Center last March
