CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A Friday night road competition against Midwest Independent Conference foe Southeast Missouri resulted in a close loss for the Illinois State gymnastics team, 192.775-192.475, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Scoring Breakdown:
• Bars: ISU 48.375, SEMO 47.825
• Vault: ISU 48.025, SEMO 47.700
• Floor: SEMO 49.025, ISU 48.300
• Beam: SEMO 48.225, ISU 47.775
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We showed up on bars and started the competition well but did not finish as strong as we would have liked. There were a lot of little mistakes on floor and we did not do our best on vault and gave away points. During the last rotation, we protected the lead and did not score what we are capable of and did not show up to fight."
Team Notes:
• The Redbirds took the lead 48.375-47.700 after the first rotation on bars, with three gymnasts scoring over 9.700.
• After the second rotation on vault, ISU had four gymnasts score over 9.600 to continue their lead 96.400-95.525 over the Redhawks.
• With two gymnasts scoring over 9.700 on floor, the Redbirds continued their close lead 144.700-143.700 over SEMO after the third rotation.
• The Redbirds lost the lead during the last rotation on beam and trailed 192.475-192.775.
Gymnast Notes:
• Reining MIC Newcomer of the week Angelica Labat posted a career-high 9.875 on bars to tie for the event win and tied first on beam posting a 9.700 … those efforts helped the freshman record a career-high 38.950 in the all-around to take the event win.
• Sophomore Sofia Iribarren tied for the event win on bars posting a career-high 9.875 … Iribarren also posted a season-high on vault of 9.625 to finish in third.
• Senior Madison Solka posted a season-high 9.625 on vault to finish third.
• Senior Gabrielle Cooke competed in the all-around for the first time this season, posting a 38.425 to finish third … Cooke scored a 9.650 on beam to finish third and a 9.700 on bars to finish fifth.
• Freshman Christin Bandy posted a career-high 9.600 on vault to finish fifth in the event.
