Redbirds Set To Compete Against Drake and DePaul This Week

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team will host Drake on Thursday, Feb. 27, for their Summit League Conference opener at the Bloomington Tennis Center, before heading to Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 29, for a match against DePaul. 

"This is a huge week for us as we start conference play. I think it's so important we get off to a positive start and that is going to be key for us moving forward," head coach Mark Klysner said. "The guys are ready and have prepared well, so I'm confident we will put in a good effort in this week's matches."

Redbird Notes:
Sophomore Diego Le Gal Perez was recently named Summit League's Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performances in a pair of victories or the Redbirds last week. The Redbirds traveled to Chicago, Illinois, where they swept Chicago State for the second time during their 2019-2020 season. That win was followed by another on the road victory against host Green Bay, 5-2, which brought the Redbirds to an overall record of 11-5 for their 2020 spring season. 

About the Bulldogs:
The Bulldogs currently hold a 2020 spring record of 2-12. Last weekend, the Bulldogs fell to Michigan State, 4-3, and New Mexico, 4-1. The Bulldogs last faced the Redbirds during their 2018-2019, season where they earned a 5-2 victory.

About the Blue Demons:
The Blue Demons earned a 4-1 triumph over host Texas A&M Corpus Christi, bringing their overall spring season record to 5-8. DePaul's Fran Tonejc earned a 7-6 (10), 6-1 win at the No. 6 singles spot during the match.
