SAINT LOUIS – Sophomore Tara Damnjanovic has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week for her performance this past weekend against Chicago State and UIC. The Valjevo, Serbia, native went 2-0 this past weekend and was instrumental in the team's sweep over Chicago State.
On Friday, Damnjanovic easily put away Chicago State's Kristina Pukhaeva (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 1 spot to lead the Redbirds to their 7-0 sweep. On Sunday, she went toe to toe against UIC's Georgia Colic, winning the first set, 6-4, but dropping the second set, 6-2. In the final set, Damnjanovic and Colic went back-and-forth before Damnjanovic pulled away in the end to win the tiebreaker set, 11-9.
The Redbirds return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, at home when they host in-state foe Western Illinois at the Bloomington Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
