About the Course: Magnolia Grove is newly renovated for any golfers finding themselves in southern Alabama. The renovations have made the courses more "player friendly" while still keeping the feel of the original design.
History of the Event: This is the 12th consecutive appearance in Mobile, Ala. for the Redbirds. They have participated in this tournament since 2009. Illinois State's best outing was in 2010, when the team placed second out of 18 schools with a score of 878. To compare, the Redbirds highest score this season was 872, when the team were champions at the Little Rock Intercollegiate.
Quote from Coach Ray Kralis: "We compete against a very strong field right out of the gate, so the training trip last week to the Tinervin Cup was just what we needed. WE need to be on our mental game and manage our expectations. That will be imperative to growing more confident as the tournament progresses."
Last Time Out: The 'Birds last outing was back in November, when they traveled to Nassau, Bahamas to compete in the White Sands Intercollegiate. The team, led by senior David Perkins, tied for seventh out of 14 with a score of 852 (287-285-280) in a strong and competitive field. Perkins tied for fourth out of 84 golfers with a score of 206 (68-73-65) and was named his third MVC Golfer of the Week for the year.
Next Time Out: The squad will return next month in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. when they compete at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular Mar. 14-15.
