ST. LOUIS – Illinois State freshman guard DJ Horne has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team, announced by the MVC office on Tuesday morning.
In the voting done by the conference coaches, Sports Information Directors, and media members, Horne is one of five freshman on the team, and is joined by Donovan Clay (Valparaiso), Marcus Domask (Southern Illinois), Marquise Kennedy (Loyola Chicago), and Jake LaRavia (Indiana State).
Horne is second on the team in scoring for the season, averaging 8.8 points per game while hitting on 98-of-216 shots from the field and a team-high 40.9 percent (45-of-110) from beyond the arc. He has pulled down 93 rebounds and dished out 42 assists – third-most on the team.
He recently set a new career-high with 24 points against Evansville in the regular season finale, while also pulling down a career-high seven rebounds in that game. He has scored in double-figures 13 times this season, including 10 times in 18 games within the MVC. His three-point field goal percentage is the third-highest in school history for a freshman, while his 45 three-point makes are the seventh-most in Redbird basketball history for a freshman.
Horne is the 10th Redbird to be named to the All-Freshman team, and is joined by Todd Starks (1985-86), Victor Williams (1998-99), P.J. Smith (1999-00), Gregg Alexander (2001-02), Marcus Arnold (2002-03), Osiris Eldridge (2006-07), Jackie Carmichael (2009-10), Nic Moore (2011-12), and Reggie Lynch (2013-14).
