DEKALB, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics team returned to the road Friday night to compete against in-state foe Northern Illinois, and it was the Huskies who came out on top 195.725-191.300 at Convocation Center.
Scoring Breakdown:
- Bars: NIU 48.825, ISU 47.775
- Vault: NIU 49.000, ISU 47.750
- Beam: NIU 48.675, ISU 47.125
- Floor: NIU 49.225, ISU 48.650
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We made some mistakes and we were not mentally prepared tonight. Opportunities were there and we need to come together and be more prepared for next week's meet."
Team Notes:
- The Redbirds fell behind on the first two rotations but battled back on the third rotation on floor as ISU had four gymnasts score over 9.700 to post a team-high score of 48.650 on the night.
- ISU finished with four gymnasts scoring over 9.700 on beam and scored a 47.125.
Gymnast Notes:
- Angelica Labat tied for second on floor with a 9.800 and scored a 9.775 on beam to tie for third … these scores helped her score a 38.600 in the all-around to win the event.
- Reigning MIC Gymnast of the Week Gabrielle Cooke took the event win on beam with a 9.825, which helped her score a 38.375 in the all-around to finish second overall … the senior also finished second on bars with a 9.825.
- Sofia Iribarren tied for second on floor with a 9.800 which helped her finish third with a 37.225 in the all-around.
- Christin Bandy made her bars debut and also finished seventh on vault with a career-high 9.650.
