Hein Presented with Woytowych Endowed Scholarship

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State swimmer Sarah Hein has been named the recipient of the 2020-21 Dede Woytowych Endowed Scholarship, presented annually to a junior or senior member of the Redbird swimming and diving program.

"Sarah (Hein) is a true Redbird through and through," head swimming coach Caitlin Hamilton shared. "This last year I have watched her develop into one of our program's go-to leaders. She strives to make personal connections with her teammates, fellow Redbirds and within the Bloomington-Normal community. The honor of being named the Woytowych Endowed Scholarship Recipient is beyond deserved, and I know Sarah will represent Dede's namesake with pride."

A multi-event athlete, Hein has continued to excel during her first two seasons as a Redbird. The Sycamore, Illinois, native battled to six top-five finishes in three different events during the 2019-20 season. At the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Championships, she posted a pair of personal best times in the 100-yard butterfly (57.13) and 200-yard butterfly (2:06.50) events. A standout in the classroom as well, Hein carries a 3.54 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a human development and family science major and children's studies minor.

The Woytowych scholarship was established in 2007 by Denise and Rich Woytowych (parents of Dede) and her many friends. Dede was a swimming letterwinner for ISU who died suddenly in 2005 at the age of 23. Dede had a personal impact on the lives of her teammates, her coaches, her community and swimming fans.

This endowed scholarship is one of 31 available to Illinois State student-athletes that are funded by private donors.
