ST. LOUIS – Two Redbird golfers – Joe Hodgson and Valentin Peugnet – have earned a share of the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honor, as the award is each ISU golfer's second honor of their career.
Both Hodgson and Peugnet tied for 11th in the strong field (four top-50 teams and six top-100 teams) at the Purdue Fall Invitational and was played at the Purdue Kampen Golf Course – host of the 2008 NCAA men's championship and numerous NCAA Regionals, and played at 7,465 yards, nearly 200 yards longer than any course ISU has played this season. The pairs' 215 tied for 11th; however, was just two strokes away from third in the strong and deep field.
Hodgson opened the tournament with a one-over 73 and followed that with a three-over-par 75. He closed his tournament strong with a five-under 67, propelling him into the top-12 in the field. The 67 ties his career-low, a number he has reached twice this year – once in each of his last two tournaments. He averaged 4.58 strokes per par-five in the tournament and was a combined five strokes under par in those holes during the tournament, the third-lowest par-five scoring in the tournament field.
Peugnet had all three of his rounds at or under par in the tournament, and now has six consecutive rounds at or under par. He opened the tournament with an even-par 72, and followed that with a one-under-par 71, and closed with a 72 for a 215 total in the tournament score. He tied for the lowest par-four scoring total in the tournament, as was three strokes under par over the tournament's par-four holes. He has finished at the top or tied for the top finisher for ISU in each of the team's last three tournaments.
The Redbirds return to action this coming weekend when the squad travels to Little Rock Invitational that will feature 14 schools.
