NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State swimming & diving will hit the road for the first time this season for a pair of road meets at Southern Illinois and McKendree this weekend. The Redbirds will kick off a busy weekend on Friday, October 29 at 5 p.m. at Southern Illinois where they will face competitors from both SIU and the University of Illinois. The following day, ISU will travel to Lebanon, Illinois to compete against McKendree and Maryville on Saturday, October 30. Diving will open Saturday's competition at 9:30 a.m. followed swimming events at 10 a.m.
ISU's stacked weekend will be highlighted by the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle on Friday and the 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle on Saturday. Friday's events feature five student-athletes in the 100 and four each in both of the 200s and the 50, while Saturday's events feature five different student-athletes in the 500 and four in the 100 and the 50. In both Friday and Saturday's diving competitions, all five Redbird divers will compete in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
The 'Birds were led by junior swimmer Makenna Licking and freshman diver Eva Reyes at their season opening dual against Evansville last weekend at the Horton Pool. Licking and Reyes each picked up a pair of wins for Illinois State to edge the Redbirds past Missouri Valley Conference rival, Evansville. With her two wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, Reyes not only swept the competition but also notched a pair of qualifying scores for NCAA Zones, which earned her the first MVC Diver of the Week honor of her career.
