LAST TIME OUT
Fifth year Juliunn Redmond turned in a career-high 30 points to lead Illinois State (3-6) to an 80-71 victory over SIUE (4-5) at First Community Arena in Edwardsville, Ill. on Saturday afternoon.
Redshirt sophomore Maya Wong had 13 points paired with a career-best eight assists, the most by a Redbird this season. Junior DeAnna Wilson recorded her second double-double of the year (and fourth of her career) with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Redbirds jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in the first quarter and never relented, leading throughout the entire game. ISU shot 55.6% from the floor while holding the Cougars to 38.7% shooting on the day.
Redshirt junior Mary Crompton finished with 11 points, going 3-of-4 from behind the arc. As ISU's resident sharpshooter, Crompton is averaging 2.7 threes per game and has hit multiple threes in seven of nine games during the 2021-22 campaign.
MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Juliunn Redmond was tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after her performance at SIUE, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Redmond scored 18 of her career-best 30 points in the final quarter of Saturday's game, and has now recorded 20+ points in three of ISU's last four games.
The Chicago-native was only the third MVC player to eclipse the 30-point mark this year and is the first Redbird to do so since Lexi Wallen had 35 points in a 2OT victory over Loyola Chicago back in Feb. 2020. It is Redmond's fourth career weekly conference honor and ISU's first since Wallen earned the title on Dec. 23, 2019.
BIG TEN OPPONENTS
The Redbirds face their second Big Ten foe of the season in Wisconsin on Thursday, after falling earlier in the year to Purdue at home. The last time ISU had multiple Big Ten opponents on their schedule was during the 2012-13 season when the 'Birds had Iowa, Illinois and Michigan on their non-conference slate.
ISU's last win over a Big Ten team was a 74-58 victory over Illinois in Champaign on Nov. 16, 2019.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Freshman guard Krystyna Ellew led the way with 21 points for Wisconsin in its 63-53 loss at home to Green Bay on Sunday. Ellew had a career-high nine rebounds with junior Julie Pospisilova and sophomore Brooke Schramek adding 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Pospisilova averages a team-high 14.9 points and 4.0 assists on the year. Junior Sydney Hilliard is the leader on the glass, collecting 5.2 boards per contest.
Marisa Moseley was named the head coach of the Badger program in March 2021. Moseley had spent the previous three seasons as head coach of her alma mater, Boston University, where she amassed a 45-39 overall record and was named the 2019 Patriot League Coach of the Year. Prior to becoming a head coach, Moseley spent 13 years as an assistant coach at Denver, Minnesota and UConn, where she spent the nine seasons under head coach Geno Auriemma.
SERIES HISTORY
ISU leads the all-time series with Wisconsin, 10-7, but the Badgers have a 4-3 advantage when playing in Madison. Wisconsin has emerged victorious in five of the last six meetings.
LAST MEETING
ISU cut an 18-point deficit at the end of the first quarter down to one late in the third quarter, before eventually falling short in a 64-46 loss to Wisconsin on Dec. 4, 2016 at Redbird Arena.
Senior Taylor Stewart paced the Redbirds with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists over a career-high 39 minutes. Katrina Beck logged 39 minutes and just missed a double-double with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Freshman Frannie Corrigan also narrowly missed a double-double with season-highs of eight points and nine rebounds, while fellow freshman Megan Talbot pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to establish a new season-high.
